March - White Wine Moscow Mule

Here's our take on the classic Moscow Mule: replace the vodka with Italian Pinot Grigio! The Pinot Grigio adds an extra spritz of citrus and we've added Pineapple Ginger shrub for a slight tropical twist to compliment the ginger in the cocktail and the tropical notes in the Pinot Grigio. Our favourite Pinot Grigio to use is the Anterra Pinot Grigio from Italy. With warming ginger spice, fresh citrus, and tropical flare this cocktail is a perfect way to say arrivederci to winter and aloha to spring! 

- 4 oz Pinot Grigio
- 4 oz Cawston Press Sparkling Ginger Beer
- 2 oz Abiding Citizen Pineapple Ginger Shrub
- 1/2 Lime juiced
- Ice
- Lime round and Pineapple wedge, for serving

Fill copper mug with ice and pour in Pinot Grigio, Abiding Citizen Pineapple Ginger shrub, and lime juice. Top with ginger beer. Stir well and garnish with a lime wedge, and pineapple.

February - Red Wine Hot Chocolate

Chocolate and wine are a match made in heaven, so why not put chocolate into wine? It makes for a rich, creamy, and delicious drink that will warm you right up. This decadent drink is perfect for sharing with your best friends, family, or of course your valentine! It also pairs great with Valentine's Day treats like cookies or more chocolate! You can never have too much chocolate. Our choice of red is the Fork & Spoon Cabernet Merlot, fruit forward, notes of chocolate, and inexpensive; it's a perfect wine for mixing into this recipe.

- 1 1/2 cup milk
- 1 cup red wine
- 1/3 cup dark chocolate chunks

In a saucepan over medium heat combine milk and chocolate chunks. Whisking constantly until chocolate is melted into the milk and is thick and creamy. Pour in red wine and heat until everything is hot. Pour into 2 mugs or 6-8 smaller glasses. Optional: top with whipped cream, sprinkles, chocolate shavings, etc.

Note: For a dairy-free option, almond milk works great in this recipe! And use coconut whip cream to garnish.

January - Mulled Wine

And is there any better way to warm up than with a hot mug of mulled wine? Known as "glühwein" in Germany and Austria, mulled wine is best paired with a blanket and the new season of your favourite Netflix show. The recipe for a perfect snow day! And, we have got the perfect recipe for mulled wine; we like to use an inexpensive red for mulling like the Centelleo Tempranillo, which is full-bodied and can stand up to the added spices. Our secret ingredient is a handful of raisins, which adds a pleasant depth to the mulled wine.

- 1 750ml bottle red wine
- 3 tbsp Victoria Mulling Spices
- 2 tbsp Fresh Roots Farms Raw Honey
- 1/4 cup orange juice
- a handful of raisins
- half an orange, sliced

    Put all ingredients into a crock pot, heat through (but do not boil). Then leave on warm (or the lowest setting) until you are done drinking. Strain out spices when flavour is to your taste.

    December - Classic Champagne Cocktail

Instead of traditional angostura bitters, we used the Abiding Citizen citrus bitters for a zippy twist. It's the perfect way to add some flair to your New Year's Eve celebrations and impress your guests with this classic drink. Our favourite champagne is the Charles Mignon Premium Reserve Brut, but any sparkling wine will do in a pinch.

    - 1 white sugar cube
    - 2 dashes Abiding Citizen Citrus Bitters
    - Enough champagne to fill the glass (about 4oz)

    Place the sugar cube onto a spoon and add the bitters. Drop the soaked sugar cube into a champagne flute and top up the glass with champagne. Garnish with an orange twist and serve.

    October - Peach Bellini

    Perfect for a celebration of any kind, the Peach Bellini is a simple cocktail with only two ingredients! Even though the weather is turning to cooler temperatures, we still have a few warm days in between, which is great for a chilled sparkling cocktail. In this drink, we're featuring the locally-made Abiding Citizen Peach Shrub, one of their limited edition fall flavours! It is available at our physical store (while supplies last), but fresh peach purée will work in a pinch. Our favourite prosecco for cocktails is the Sette Ventiquattro Prosecco, but any prosecco will do.

    - 2 oz Abiding Citizen Peach Shrub (or fresh peach purée)
    - 4 oz Prosecco
    - Fresh peaches for serving

    Pour peach shrub or purée into a champagne flute, add chilled sparkling wine. Serve.
