Abel Mendoza ‘Jarrarte’ Carbonic Tempranillo - Rioja, Spain
Bright, floral and bursting with youthful Rioja energy, ‘Jarrarte’ shows Tempranillo in its most immediate and joyfully drinkable form. It opens with vivid cherry, redcurrant and raspberry, lifted by violet, fresh herbs and a subtle touch of spice. The palate is fresh, juicy and supple, with soft tannins, lively acidity and a gently sweet-fruited core that makes it incredibly easy to enjoy, while still carrying the stony, alluvial character of San Vicente de la Sonsierra.
Made using traditional Rioja carbonic maceration, whole clusters of Tempranillo are placed into open concrete tanks, allowing fermentation to begin naturally inside the berries before the fruit is foot-trodden. The free-run “vino corazón” - the 'heart wine' - then continues fermentation in concrete, with spontaneous malolactic fermentation following at cool temperatures. Only this free-run juice is bottled, preserving the wine’s freshness, perfume and pure red-fruited charm.
