Avignonesi “Vino Nobile di Montepulciano” - Tuscany, Italy
Producer's Notes:
In the glass the Nobile 2020 shows garnet red reflections. On the nose, it offers aromas of small red fruits, pomegranate and the unmistakable violet scent of good Sangiovese. In the background a touch of vanilla and tomato leaf. The palate is well balanced, with sweet notes of ripe cherries and plum jam, supported by precise and elegant tannins. The body is dynamic and compelling and the pleasant drinkability is accompanied by good persistence. Aged at least 18 months, mainly in Slavonian oak casks, as well as French oak barriques and tonneaux.
What we say:
Crafted by the forward-thinking estate at Avignonesi, this Vino Nobile di Montepulciano offers a refined expression of Sangiovese from the ancient vineyards of Montepulciano (the place, not to be confused with Montepulciano the grape as made famous in Montepulciano d'Abruzzo wines). With organic and biodynamic practices, the wine balances craft and character with drinkability and depth.
On the nose you’ll find aromas of red cherry, plum, wild herbs, violet and a whisper of leather and spice - classic Sangiovese territory with Tuscan elegance. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied with bright acidity, smooth but present tannins, concentrated red-fruit flavours and a long savoury finish. Polished yet authentic, this is a versatile wine that can be enjoyed now or cellared for development.
