Bachelder “Patte Rouge” Chardonnay – Niagara, Ontario
A single-vineyard Chardonnay of real tension and finesse, Patte Rouge is one of Thomas Bachelder’s most distinctive white wines, crafted with his signature focus on transparency, minerality, and cool-climate elegance. Grown on red clay and limestone soils that give the cuvée its name, this is Chardonnay with both depth and precision.
The nose is refined and expressive: lemon zest, crisp apple, white peach, and subtle florals, supported by hints of wet stone and delicate oak. On the palate, Patte Rouge is taut, textured, and beautifully balanced—bright acidity woven through a fine, layered core of fruit with a touch of lanolin. The finish is long, saline, and quietly complex, capturing the essence of Niagara’s coolest, most mineral-driven sites.
