Bastiàn Cuntràri Rosso di Valtellina Nebbiolo - Rosso di Valtellina DOC, Lombardia, Italy
A fresh, alpine expression of Nebbiolo from the emerging Bastiàn Cuntràri estate in Valtellina, this wine offers a beautifully approachable take on the grape (known locally as Chiavennasca). Sourced from high-altitude, terraced vineyards across sub-zones like Sassella and Grumello, it reflects the region’s hallmark combination of mountain freshness and mineral tension.
Bastiàn Cuntràri is a small, sustainability-focused project founded by two young winemakers who left other careers to focus on their local vineyards. Their approach emphasises organic principles, minimal intervention and careful parcel selection, resulting in wines that are pure, expressive and terroir-driven.
Compared to Nebbiolo from Piedmont, Valtellina wines tend to be lighter, more aromatic and driven by acidity and minerality, thanks to their steep alpine vineyards and cooler climate.
The wine opens with lifted aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry and red rose, leading into a palate that is crisp, mineral-driven and finely structured. Bright acidity and gentle tannins give it energy and precision, while the lighter body makes it especially versatile and easy to enjoy young - a classic hallmark of Rosso di Valtellina.
