Beck-Hartweg “Dambach-la-Ville” Pinot Gris - Alsace, France

Producer's Notes:

VINIFICATION : The grapes are put in the pneumatic press without crushing, and the pressing is long and smooth in order to preserve the purity of the aromas. Wild-yeast fermentation during 1 to 3 months in our old oak casks, then aged 4 to 6 more months on the fine lees. Estate bottled.

WHEN TO DRINK IT? Can be enjoyed on the nice floral notes during 4 years following the bottling. Then it can be enjoyed dryer and more complex for 4 more years.

TASTING NOTES : Floral, pure on the nose. A nice roundness in mouth, with crisp fruit notes and a nice freshness on the finish.

WHAT TO DRINK IT WITH? Will be perfect with fish terrine, smoked fishes, lobster, vegetable tart as well as poultry and the traditional Alsatian Baeckeoffe. Its freshness and floral notes make it a perfect aperitif.

HOW TO SERVE IT? At 10°C. Better when opened an hour before pouring. There can be some natural CO2, please decant if too much. Some lees in the bottles do not affect the quality of the wine.

What we say:

A beautifully pure and terroir-driven Pinot Gris from Domaine Beck-Hartweg, this wine comes from the granitic slopes around Dambach-la-Ville, one of Alsace’s most distinctive vineyard sites. Known for their natural, low-intervention approach, the Beck-Hartweg family produces wines that emphasize energy, texture and a strong sense of place.

This sits firmly in the modern Alsace / natural-leaning camp. It's more dry and mineral than the old-school classic richer Pinot Gris, it features a subtle texture from lees and gentle handling and there's a definite focus on precision over opulence.

The vineyards here sit on pink granite soils, which are relatively rare in Alsace and contribute to the wine’s distinctive mineral tension and freshness.

Whole clusters are pressed slowly and gently, followed by wild yeast fermentation in old oak casks and ageing on fine lees. The wine is typically bottled with minimal intervention, sometimes with a touch of natural CO₂ and light lees - all part of its authentic, living style.

The nose is floral and precise, showing notes of pear, white peach and citrus, with a subtle almond and mineral edge. On the palate it is gently rounded yet fresh, combining orchard fruit with bright acidity and a clean, mineral finish. There’s a lovely balance between texture and lift, making it both expressive and highly drinkable.
