C.V.N.E. Contino Reserva - Rioja, Spain
Producer's notes:
Contino, the first "chateau" in Rioja, was first produced in 1973. Its wines are produced exclusively from the vineyards situated on its 62-hectare estate.
For Contino, nothing is more modern than a renewed classic. The Contino Reserva is an excellent example of this philosophy. Produced from a variety of micro-vineyards in the area surrounding Viñedos del Contino with distinct soil types (alluvial, clay-limestone, saline and sandy).
What we say:
From the historic Contino estate - Rioja’s very first “single-vineyard” winery - this Reserva captures the hallmark elegance, balance, and finesse that define modern Rioja Alavesa. Crafted from estate-grown fruit and aged in a mix of French and American oak, it offers depth and structure while remaining beautifully drinkable.
The nose opens with aromas of black cherry, red plum, cedar, sweet spice, and a hint of dried herbs. On the palate, it’s refined and harmonious: medium-full bodied with silky tannins, fresh acidity, and layers of juicy fruit intertwined with subtle oak and savoury complexity. The finish is long, polished, and classically Rioja.
Grape varieties: 86% Tempranillo, 6% Mazuelo, 6% Graciano, 2% Garnacha
Style: Elegant, silky, modern Rioja Reserva
Drink window: Now–2030
Perfect for: Roast lamb, tapas, grilled vegetables, cured meats, or refined everyday drinking
Balanced, expressive, and consistently excellent, Contino Reserva is a standout Rioja that showcases the grace and pedigree of this iconic estate.
