Layered, polished and unmistakably Super Tuscan in spirit, Caiarossa 2019 brings together Bordeaux varieties, Rhône varieties and Sangiovese into a richly detailed but beautifully balanced whole. It opens with ripe black plum, blueberry, blackberry and dark cherry, layered with violet, licorice, cocoa, pepper, Mediterranean herbs and a subtle smoky-mineral edge. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, but not heavy: velvety tannins, fresh acidity and a savoury, stony undertow keep the wine poised, while the finish carries dark fruit, spice and a lingering note of licorice.
Made from a biodynamically farmed blend of Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese and Grenache, Caiarossa reflects the estate’s distinctive patchwork of varieties and soils near Riparbella on the Tuscan coast. The wine is matured in a combination of tonneaux and cement, helping build depth and texture while preserving freshness and detail. The 2019 vintage is particularly strong: intense and full-bodied, but with the balance, polish and layered structure that make Caiarossa feel refined rather than oversized.
