Cascina Penna-Currado “Carrà” Barbera d’Alba - Piedmont, Italy

Producer's Notes:

It is plain to see from the deep ruby red colour that this is a wine with an exceptional structure. On the nose, rich aromas of black fruit such as plums and blueberries are fused with spicy notes and balsamic touches. On the palate, the crisp minerality perfectly counterbalances the full body. With its fine, velvety tannins, this wine is ideal for sipping slowly.

What we say:

From the historic, hand-tended vineyards of Penna-Currado in the Chieri area of Piedmont, the “Carrà” Barbera d’Alba is a superb expression of Barbera’s potential: bright, polished and rich with regional personality. Sourced from old vines and crafted with respect for the hillside terroir, it offers depth and drinkability in equal measure.

The nose opens with layered aromas of ripe red cherry, plum, black berry, dried rose petals and soft spice, with hints of earth and cedar from gentle ageing. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied with firm though silky tannins, vibrant acidity, concentrated dark red fruit, and a subtle mineral finish that ties back to the limestone-rich soils. Elegant and generous, this is Barbera for those who appreciate structure and approachability.
