Cave Spring Gewürztraminer - Beamsville Bench, Ontario, Canada
Producer's Notes:
This wine originates from our Cave Spring Vineyard, nestled on a hillside of the Niagara Escarpment overlooking Lake Ontario, known as the Beamsville Bench. Along this gentle slope, dolostone soils, elevation, and moderating onshore breezes combine to produce a dry, richly extracted Gewürztraminer with exotic fruit and spice overtones.
The nose is filled with concentrated aromas of ripe peach, honey, lychee, white flowers, and pineapple compote; undertones of nutmeg, rose water, and Christmas spice, while the palate is Dry and full in body; rich and intense up front with undertones of baked apple and almond extract; round and mouth-coating in the middle, with explosive flavours of vanilla custard, poached pear, and candied orange, defined edges, and a grippy walnut texture; a fresh salinity drives into a powerful, layered finish of salted lemon, cinnamon, shaved ginger, and Key lime pie.
What We Say:
A cool-climate Gewürztraminer, this wine is dry and richly extracted, with exotic fruit and spice, while the limestone-and-dolostone-influenced soils, elevation, and Lake Ontario breezes preserve freshness, keeping the wine highly aromatic and generously textured without becoming overwhelmingly heavy.
The aromas bring out rose petals, lychee, grapefruit, tangerine, and poached pear, complemented by mango, vanilla, and warm cinnamon spice, while the palate is fresh, rounded, and surprisingly creamy. The aromatic feel is classic Gewürztraminer-floral and exotic-but Cave Spring's cool Niagara climate gives it an appealing citrus lift.
