Elegant, powerful and increasingly distinctive, Château Durfort-Vivens 2020 shows the modern face of this historic Second Growth Margaux: Cabernet-led, biodynamic and shaped as much by freshness as by depth. It opens with concentrated blackcurrant, blackberry and dark cherry, layered with violet, graphite, cedar, liquorice, baking spice and a subtle herbal lift. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with impressive density for Margaux, but the tannins are polished and finely woven, giving structure without losing the appellation’s perfume and grace. There’s a savoury, almost saline mineral edge beneath the dark fruit, finishing long, fresh and firmly built for the cellar.

Made from 88% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Merlot, the 2020 was aged for 18 months in a mix of 70% new oak barrels and 30% TAVA amphorae, a hallmark of the estate’s recent evolution under Gonzague Lurton. The château is certified organic and biodynamic, and the use of amphorae helps preserve purity and energy while adding texture without relying solely on oak. The result is a Margaux that feels both classical and quietly experimental: dark, structured and age-worthy, but with real aromatic lift and precision.
