Château Lafite Rothschild 1er Grand Cru Classé Rouge 2023 - Pauillac, Bordeaux, France
The very definition of First Growth Bordeaux, Château Lafite Rothschild 2023 is a wine of extraordinary refinement, purity and effortless power. The bouquet is intensely aromatic yet beautifully restrained, revealing layers of cassis, blackcurrant, wild blackberry and dark cherry, intertwined with violets, cedar, graphite, cigar box and delicate notes of mint and pencil shavings. On the palate it is impeccably poised, combining remarkable concentration with silken tannins, vibrant freshness and an almost weightless elegance. The finish is exceptionally long and nuanced, unfolding with waves of dark fruit, crushed stone, spice and the unmistakable mineral signature that has defined Lafite for generations.
The 2023 vintage is composed of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, a classic Left Bank blend that perfectly reflects the gravelly soils of Pauillac. Fermentation takes place in a combination of wooden, stainless steel and concrete vats, with each parcel vinified separately before meticulous blending. The wine is then matured for approximately 15 months in new French oak barrels, crafted by the estate's own cooperage, Tonnellerie des Domaines, ensuring complete control over one of the defining elements of Lafite's unmistakable style. Since its inclusion as a Premier Grand Cru Classé in the historic 1855 Classification, Château Lafite Rothschild has remained one of the world's most revered wine estates, producing bottles renowned for their finesse, longevity and remarkable ability to evolve over many decades.
