Château Montlandrie Rouge 2023 - Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux, France
Dark, polished and impressively serious for Castillon, Château Montlandrie 2022 shows why this estate has become one of the Right Bank’s great value names. It opens with black raspberry, dark cherry and blueberry, layered with violet, cocoa, liquorice, graphite and a subtle minty freshness. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with ripe but controlled fruit, supple tannins and a chalky mineral thread that gives the wine shape and lift. There’s plenty of richness from the warm 2022 vintage, but it stays fresh, balanced and very Bordeaux, finishing long with dark fruit, chocolate and a savoury limestone edge.
Made from 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine comes from clay-limestone soils in Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux and was aged with a significant proportion of new oak. Montlandrie was developed by the late Denis Durantou of Château L’Église-Clinet, and it carries that same Right Bank sense of polish and precision: generous Merlot fruit, Cabernet Franc lift and enough structure to reward a few years in the cellar.

What The Critics Say
95/100 James Suckling
"Sea salt and grilled sea weed. Dark fruit, but so umami. Medium to full body with fine and chewy tannins. Crunchy."
92-94/100 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
"The 2022 Montlandrie is a powerful, driving wine. Beams of tannin and acid run through a core of bright red-toned fruit, lending notable energy and tension throughout. A wine of size and volume, Montlandrie offers tremendous intensity as well as vibrancy. Gorgeous." Drinking now - 2037
92-94/100 The Wine Independent, Lisa Perrotti-Brown
"A blend of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2022 Montlandrie has a deep garnet-purple color. It comes bounding out with eager-to-please notes of wild blueberries, kirsch, and violets, leading to hints of wet slate, tilled soil, and mossy tree bark. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is generous and juicy with ripe, rounded tannins and bags of freshness, finishing with a spicy kick."
A superb Right Bank Bordeaux with serious pedigree - dark, supple and mineral, offering the kind of polish and depth that makes Castillon one of Bordeaux’s smartest places to look.
