Château Pédesclaux 2020 - Pauillac, Bordeaux, France
A polished, modern Pauillac from an excellent Left Bank vintage, Château Pédesclaux 2020 opens with deep blackcurrant, blackberry and dark cherry, layered with graphite, cedar, violet, spice and a subtle tobacco-leaf note. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with a juicy core of dark fruit wrapped in firm but refined tannins, giving the wine both immediate richness and serious structure. There’s classic Pauillac character here - cassis, pencil lead, gravel and savoury depth, but with a more supple, contemporary feel - finishing long, fresh and gently spiced.
Made from a Cabernet Sauvignon-led blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, the 2020 reflects the estate’s increasingly precise approach to vineyard and cellar work. The château describes its terroir as "a mosaic" where clay brings power and gravel brings elegance, and that balance comes through clearly in the wine: structured, dark-fruited and mineral, but with enough polish and lift to keep it from feeling heavy.

A serious Fifth Growth Pauillac with real pedigree - dark, structured and built for the cellar, but already showing enough polish and fruit to make it tempting with a proper decant.
