Concha y Toro Almaviva 2008 - Puente Alto, Maipo Valley, Chile
Producer's Notes:
Deep, intense ruby red. The nose reveals pure, delicate aromas of ripe blackcurrants, wild strawberries and blackberries, blended with hints of minerals and fine notes of vanilla, coffee, licorice and spices. The mouth shows outstanding balance, a firm tannic structure anbd exceptional length. The tannins are ripe, refined and concentrated, contributing to the density and elegant texture of the wine. A complex, graceful and brilliant wine, pure and precise in its mineral character, persistent and layered, harmoniously balanced by a great acidity.
What we say:
A landmark Chilean Bordeaux-style blend from the iconic Almaviva project - a partnership between Concha y Toro and Baron Philippe de Rothschild - the 2008 vintage offers a compelling mix of ripe fruit, structure and mature complexity. The nose shows classic dark fruit (blackberry, blackcurrant) intertwined with graphite, mint, spice, licorice and subtle mocha notes, while the palate is rich yet elegant, with smooth, harmonious tannins and bright acidity carrying through a persistent, mineral-tinged finish. This is a vintage that has developed beautifully in bottle, showing both depth and finesse as it continues to mature.
Grape varieties: 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Carménère, 8% Cabernet Franc
Style: Dry red, Bordeaux-style blend
