Vurria Nerello Mascalese is a medium bodied red with a bright and mineral profile, that is enveloping and complex. It shows elegant notes of ripe red fruit and pomegranate. Notes of smoke, white pepper and a mineral profile best express the ancient volcanic terroir of the Terre Siciliane.

A vibrant and mineral-driven Sicilian red from Di Giovanna, Vurrìa showcases the elegance and finesse of Nerello Mascalese grown outside its traditional Etna heartland. Sourced from high-altitude vineyards in Contessa Entellina, this wine reflects the estate’s organic farming and the influence of volcanic soils and cooling winds, giving both freshness and aromatic lift. 

Nerello Mascalese is one of Sicily’s most noble indigenous grapes, traditionally associated with Mount Etna. It is known for producing wines with bright red fruit, floral aromatics, spice and firm structure, often drawing comparisons to Pinot Noir or Nebbiolo for its elegance and sensitivity to terroir. 

Hand-harvested grapes from organically farmed vineyards are de-stemmed and fermented in stainless steel with around a week of skin contact, followed by gentle pressing. The wine is then aged for an extended period in stainless steel, preserving its purity, freshness and mineral character while allowing the tannins to soften and integrate. 

The nose is lifted and expressive, offering red cherry, pomegranate and wild berry fruit, layered with rose petal, white pepper and a smoky mineral edge. On the palate it is medium-bodied and finely structured, with bright acidity, silky tannins and a persistent mineral backbone, leading to a savoury, elegant finish that feels both refined and distinctly Sicilian.
