Domaine de Montahuc ‘Chemin du Chêne’ Muscat Vin Doux Naturel - Saint-Jean-de-Minervois, Languedoc, France
Lusciously sweet yet beautifully refreshed by its mountain-grown character, Chemin du Chêne is an aromatic and wonderfully balanced Vin Doux Naturel. Fragrant aromas of white flowers, orange blossom and honeysuckle mingle with lychee, passion fruit and ripe stone fruit. The palate is supple and honeyed, with generous exotic fruit and natural sweetness lifted by a bright, lively attack. A delicate mineral note carries through the clean, refreshing finish, preventing the wine from ever feeling heavy.
Produced from 100% Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains, the fruit comes from dry-farmed, goblet-trained vines more than 15 years old. The vineyard lies between 280 and 300 metres above sea level on a shallow, exceptionally stony plateau of lacustrine limestone at the foot of the Montagne Noire. Farmed organically since 1990, this distinctive site produces naturally low yields and Muscat of remarkable aromatic intensity and freshness. Fermentation takes place at very low temperatures with indigenous yeasts, followed by approximately six months of maturation in stainless steel to preserve the wine’s purity and vibrant fruit character. The cuvée takes its name from the century-old oak tree standing guard at the entrance to the vineyard.
