Domaine Frédéric Lambert ‘Les Gryphées’ Chardonnay – Jura, France
Producer's Notes:
This vintage is made from Chardonnay from an old vine whose vinification by topping up gives a floral type wine. The presence in the soil of fossils called Gryphées gave its name to this vintage.
Nose : The vinification method (the wine is aged on its lees for twelve months) means that we are in the presence of a wine of great finesse; the nose quickly reveals its charms: aromas of apricots, green apple and liquorice.
Palate : The olfactory palette is completed by a rich palate which displays a strong aromatic presence in tones of honey, acacia flower and liquorice, with great persistence.
What we say:
A step up in depth and definition from Lambert’s village Chardonnay, Les Gryphées is sourced from select parcels of limestone-rich soils that give the wine its signature tension and mineral precision. This cuvée is crafted in a restrained, terroir-driven style: delicate, pure, and unmistakably Jura.
The nose opens with aromas of white peach, pear, citrus zest, and acacia blossom, woven together with subtle notes of hazelnut and wet stone. On the palate, it’s finely textured and beautifully balanced: medium-bodied with brisk acidity, vibrant orchard fruit, and a long, saline, chalk-etched finish. The élevage is gentle, adding polish without masking the bright, crystalline core of the wine.
