Dugat-Py Pommard ‘La Levrière’ Vieilles Vignes 2023 - Burgundy, France

A powerful and deeply structured Pommard from Domaine Dugat-Py, La Levrière is one of the estate’s most serious village-level wines, sourced from old vines in this classic Côte de Beaune appellation. The 2023 continues the domaine’s hallmark style - combining intensity, concentration and a surprisingly fresh, precise edge.

The vines in La Levrière are typically very old (often 70+ years, with some parcels dating back to the 1940s), producing low yields and intensely concentrated fruit. This contributes to the wine’s depth, structure and ageing potential, well beyond typical village Pommard.

Despite warmth in the growing season, the 2023 vintage is marked by notable freshness and balance, giving wines both richness and lift - a strong combination for structured wines like Pommard.

Dugat-Py is known for long macerations and élevage in a high proportion of new oak (often up to 100%), followed by bottling without filtration. This approach builds power, texture and longevity, while maintaining the domaine’s signature purity.

The wine opens with brooding aromas of black cherry, blackberry and wild raspberry, layered with earth, spice, smoke and a touch of floral lift. On the palate it is medium-to-full-bodied and firmly structured, showing dense fruit, pronounced tannins and vibrant acidity that give both power and lift. There is a strong mineral backbone and a savoury, slightly ferrous edge typical of Pommard, leading to a long, persistent finish built for ageing.
