Edoardo Dottori 'Arcaico' Verdicchio Orange - Castelli di Jesi, Italy

Producer's Notes:

Once upon a time, wine was made like this. The must rested for a few days on its skins, and the indigenous yeasts spontaneously began fermentation, bringing with them structure, aromas, and flavors. This wine is a tribute to those remote times, a distant memory, an echo that tells of ancient wines.

What We Say:

From deep golden yellow to rich amber or burnished copper, this Verdicchio presents a tamer orange wine than many other Italian orange wines. This orange wine is a more unconventional expression of Verdicchio from the Castelli di Jesi area of Marche, exploring the grape through an orange-wine/skin-contact approach rather than the crisp, polished style traditionally associated with Verdicchio. The important distinction is skin contact. Unlike conventional white-wine production, where white grapes are pressed quickly and the juice ferments separately from the skins, an orange wine lets the juice remain in contact with the skins during fermentation and/or maceration.
On the palate, this is a textural, dry, and savory interpretation of Verdicchio, with considerably more grip than a stainless-steel-aged white. The fruit tends toward ripe citrus and yellow orchard fruit, while fresh acidity keeps the wine energetic.

Grape Variety: Verdicchio

Style: Orange - Dry, light-to-medium-bodied, crisp, high-acidity, and textured tannins

Alcohol: 12.5%

Drink Window:

Perfect For: Carbonara, cacio e pepe, or pasta with a light cream-and-herb sauce, prosciutto, coppa, salami, and other cured meats, and mushroom, saffron, or seafood risotto

A fascinating side of Verdicchio—textural, savory, and aromatic, with the grape's natural acidity providing energy beneath the richer skin-contact character.
