Felton Road ‘Cornish Point’ Pinot Noir 1.5L 2021 - Bannockburn, Central Otago, New Zealand
Producer's Notes:
This is the most 'grown up' Cornish Point yet. It has all the classic components (vibrantly fruited, voluptuous and rounded mouthfeel...), but with a structural complexity we have rarely seen before. Indulgent but serious tannins demand a thoughtful conversation in this 15th rendition. Baritones and altos all in harmony leading to a crescendo of a finish.
What we say:
Silky, expressive and deeply polished, ‘Cornish Point’ shows the more generous, voluptuous side of Felton Road’s biodynamic Pinot Noir style. The 2021 opens with dark cherry, raspberry, plum and wild strawberry, layered with violet, spice, cedar, cocoa and a subtle savoury-earthy edge. The palate is medium-bodied but beautifully mouth-filling, with fine tannins, bright acidity and a plush, rounded texture that gives the wine immediate charm while still carrying serious structure. There’s a lovely tension between ripe fruit and mineral freshness, finishing long, spicy and elegant, with the magnum format giving it even more potential to develop gracefully in the cellar.
Sourced from Felton Road’s Cornish Point vineyard in Bannockburn, this Pinot Noir reflects one of Central Otago’s most distinctive sites, surrounded on three sides by water and known for producing wines with aromatic intensity, supple texture and dark-fruited depth. Felton Road has farmed its Bannockburn vineyards organically and biodynamically since the mid-2000s, and the wines are Demeter-certified, with a cellar approach focused on precision, transparency and site expression rather than heavy winemaking.

A beautifully poised Central Otago Pinot in a proper cellar format - perfumed, silky and generous, but with enough structure and mineral tension to reward patience.
