Deep crimson. Intense oyster shell, graphite, dark cherry, blackberry, dark chocolate / praline / mocha aromas with sage notes. Concentrated dark cherry, blackberry, dark chocolate, supple fine loose-knit gravelly tannins and integrated mocha / vanilla oak notes, Finishes chalky firm with blackberry pastille, chinotto / tobacco leaf notes - a very well balanced "aged Claret" style.
What we say:
A true Australian icon, The Armagh from Jim Barry Wines is one of the country’s most celebrated single-vineyard Shiraz bottlings. Sourced from a tiny, elevated vineyard in Clare Valley, the 2010 vintage is widely regarded as a standout — combining power, structure and remarkable longevity.
The Armagh vineyard sits at around 367 metres elevation, planted on clay and loam soils. Its low yields and careful farming produce fruit of exceptional concentration and intensity - key to the wine’s depth and ageing potential.
The 2010 vintage is considered excellent in Clare Valley, producing wines with balance, structure and outstanding ageing potential, particularly for Shiraz.
Fermented in open fermenters and matured for around 16–18 months in American oak hogsheads (a portion new), building structure and complexity while maintaining fruit intensity.
The wine opens with intense aromas of blackberry, plum and blueberry, layered with notes of dark chocolate, liquorice, spice and a touch of eucalyptus. On the palate it is full-bodied and deeply concentrated, with dense dark fruit, firm yet polished tannins and balanced acidity, delivering both richness and structure. The finish is long, powerful and complex, with lingering notes of mocha, spice and savoury depth.
