Domaine La Borderie “Trois Contrées” Extra Brut – Champagne, France
Producer's Notes:
From vineyards located in the villages of Merry sur Arce, Ville sur Arce and Bar sur Seine.
This cuvée contains 15% réserve wine of Pinot Noir which rests in wooden barrels while the remainder through malolactic fermentation in steel tanks. Aging on yeasts for at least 24 months and dosage is 4.5g/l of sugar.
The Champagne shows great elegance with pale gold amber reflections. The nose is fine and floral with notes of spices, candied citrus and dried fruit. The taste is rightly acidic and savoury, with great richness, fruitfulness and and excellent finish.
What we say:
Pinot Blanc is one of the "forgotten" varieties of grape used in Champagne making, so it's nice to see a talented producer using a bit in a grower blend. Crafted from fruit sourced across three distinct parcels (“contrées”) in the Côte des Bar, Trois Contrées showcases the depth, freshness, and understated elegance that have made La Borderie one of the most exciting young grower estates in Champagne. This Extra Brut cuvée is all about precision—beautifully dry, mineral, and vibrantly expressive.
The nose opens with citrus zest, crisp pear, white peach, and delicate floral notes, joined by subtle hints of pastry and chalk from extended lees ageing. On the palate, it’s sleek and energetic: fine and persistent bubbles, bright acidity, and a graceful interplay of orchard fruit, citrus, and mineral tension. The finish is long and refined, leaving a clean, saline impression that invites another sip.
