La Kiuva Rouge de Vallée Nebbiolo - Valle d’Aosta, Italy

Bright, alpine and wonderfully lifted, La Kiuva’s Rouge de Vallée shows Nebbiolo in its mountain form: lighter, fresher and more delicate than its Piedmont cousins, but still full of perfume and character. It opens with red cherry, raspberry and cranberry, layered with rose petal, subtle spice and a faint earthy, mineral edge. The palate is light to medium-bodied, dry and lively, with crisp acidity, fine tannins and a gently bitter savoury snap on the finish that makes it especially food-friendly.

Made by a small cooperative in the Aosta Valley, the wine is based on Picotendro, the local name/clone for Nebbiolo, blended with traditional regional varieties including Gros Vien, Neyret, Cornalin and Fumin. La Kiuva’s growers work steep, high-altitude vineyards around Arnad and Montjovet, where cool alpine air, terraced slopes and mountain soils help produce reds with freshness, perfume and a leaner, more energetic structure.
