Le Carillon de Rouget 2018 - Pomerol, Bordeaux, France
The second wine of Château Rouget, Le Carillon de Rouget offers a more accessible expression of this historic Pomerol estate while retaining the richness and polish that define the appellation. The excellent 2018 vintage brings both ripeness and structure, making this a particularly compelling release.
Château Rouget is one of Pomerol’s historic estates, located on gravel and clay soils near some of the appellation’s most famous neighbours, producing wines that combine depth, elegance and approachability.
The 2018 vintage is widely regarded as excellent on the Right Bank, producing wines with rich fruit, supple tannins and strong ageing potential, particularly in Merlot-dominant appellations like Pomerol.
The wine opens with generous aromas of black cherry, plum and blackberry, layered with notes of violet, cocoa and subtle spice. On the palate it is medium-to-full-bodied and plush, with silky tannins and ripe dark fruit supported by balanced acidity. There’s a smooth, velvety texture throughout, leading to a long, refined finish with gentle savoury undertones.
Grape varieties: Predominantly Merlot with Cabernet Franc
Style: Dry red, medium-to-full-bodied Right Bank Bordeaux
Drink window: Now–2032
Perfect for: Roast lamb, duck, braised beef, mushroom dishes, aged cheeses
Plush, polished and effortlessly charming - a beautifully approachable Pomerol that delivers classic Right Bank richness with finesse.
