Lucien Crochet ‘Les Calcaires’ Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc - Loire Valley, France

Precise, mineral and beautifully composed, ‘Les Calcaires’ is classic Sancerre with a little extra depth and polish. It opens with citrus peel, green apple and ripe yellow orchard fruit, layered with white flowers, crushed herbs and a distinctive flinty, limestone-driven edge. The palate is crisp and vibrant, but not austere: there’s a gentle roundness from lees ageing that gives the wine texture, while fresh acidity and a savoury mineral backbone keep everything clean, focused and refreshing.

Made from Sauvignon Blanc grown across several estate parcels on Oxfordian limestone soils (locally known as caillottes and griottes) this cuvée is hand-harvested, gently pressed as whole bunches and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel. It then spends extended time on lees, building subtle weight and complexity without oak influence, preserving the pure, chalky freshness that defines the wine.
