A landmark wine in Italian winemaking, San Giorgio is a powerful yet impeccably balanced red that marries the richness of Cabernet Sauvignon with the elegance of Sangiovese. Intense aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and plum preserve are layered with sweet baking spices, cedar, cocoa and subtle balsamic notes. The palate is concentrated and full-bodied, with ripe, velvety tannins supporting generous dark fruit, while vibrant acidity and refined oak bring freshness and remarkable poise to a long, persistent finish. 

First released in 1977, San Giorgio is widely regarded as Umbria's original "Superumbrian". Giorgio Lungarotti was among the first producers in Italy to recognise the potential of blending Cabernet Sauvignon with Sangiovese, creating a wine that combined international structure with unmistakable Umbrian character. Today the wine is produced from an equal blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese, grown on carefully selected hillside vineyards around Torgiano. Following an extended skin maceration in stainless steel, it is matured for 12 months in French barriques before spending at least one further year in bottle, allowing the wine to develop its impressive complexity and longevity. The label depicts Raphael's Saint George and the Dragon, paying tribute to the traditional St George's Day celebrations still observed among the vineyards of Torgiano.
