Lustau ‘Almacenista’ Amontillado del Castillo - Jerez, Spain (500 ml)
A rare and deeply complex single-solera Amontillado from Bodegas Emilio Lustau, this bottling comes from the prestigious Almacenista range - wines sourced from small, independent sherry artisans and bottled unblended to preserve their individuality.
The Almacenista series highlights wines from small, traditional sherry producers whose casks are selected and bottled by Lustau. These wines are typically unblended and highly individual, offering a more authentic and artisanal expression of Sherry.
Amontillado is a unique Sherry style that begins life like a Fino (under flor yeast) and then continues ageing oxidatively, giving it both freshness and nutty depth - a bridge between lighter and richer Sherry styles.
The Amontillado del Castillo is produced from 100% Palomino and aged for an average of 18 years in just 38 casks housed within the historic Castillo de San Marcos in El Puerto de Santa María.
The wine shows a beautiful amber colour with copper highlights, opening with aromas of hazelnut praline, candied orange peel and polished wood, alongside subtle smoky notes. On the palate it is dry, intense and highly expressive, combining vibrant acidity with layers of nuts, spice and saline complexity, finishing extraordinarily long and savoury.
