Origin: Mosel, Germany
Vineyard: The Trarbacher Hühnerberg is located in a side valley of the Moselle, just a few kilometers from the river. It is one of those locations that have been known for centuries for extremely high-quality wines.
Despite the high quality of the vineyard, it has been forgotten over time and large parts have become forest. Because of the potential, we still bought the land and wanted to restore the vineyard.
The recultivation of the overgrown vineyards began in 2001. Of the 20,000 square meters of Hühnerberg, 14,000 had not been cultivated for over a decade. The vines were meters high and overgrown with creepers and blackberry hedges. Fir and birch trees also grew where there was actually the best vineyards. Over the next few years, we painstakingly managed to free the vines from their neglected state. What particularly surprised us was that we were able to save 70% of the old vines that had not been cared for for many years. Today we have a large stock of 40 to 50 year old vines there. We were even able to save a stock of vines that were estimated to be 80 to 100 years old. These old vines are the basis for great wines.
character.
Producer's Notes:
Obtained from overripe grapes, these wines are a cornucopia of flavors and complexity with fruity but also spicy characteristics. Minerality and location typicality are
particularly evident in this wine style. Here you can expect great wines in all flavors - from dry to off-dry to fruity-sweet. Translated it means late harvest.
