Mas de Daumas Gassac Red 2021 - IGP Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert – Cité d’Aniane, Languedoc, France
Iconic, elegant and wonderfully singular, Mas de Daumas Gassac Red is one of the great cult wines of southern France: Cabernet Sauvignon-led, but with a personality all its own. The 2021 vintage is a cooler, fresher expression, opening with cassis, black cherry and raspberry, layered with violet, cedar, tobacco leaf, graphite and a subtle wild-herb edge. The palate is medium to full-bodied and finely structured, with bright acidity, polished tannins and a savoury mineral thread running through the fruit. It feels less about sheer power and more about finesse, balance and long-term complexity, finishing fresh, earthy and quietly persistent.
Made from a remarkable blend led by Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller amounts of Pinot Noir, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Tannat, Cabernet Franc and rare varieties including Nielluccio, Montepulciano, Saperavi, Carménère, Tempranillo and Abouriou. The 2021 season was marked by frost, rain and cool temperatures, resulting in slow ripening and a particularly fresh, elegant vintage. The grapes were hand-harvested, vinified with slow extraction, delicate pump-overs and long maceration, then aged for 12–15 months in older oak barrels before bottling without filtration.
Grape Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon 71%, Syrah 6%, Tannat 5%, Merlot 4%, Cabernet Franc 3%, Petit Verdot 3%, Pinot Noir 2%, Malbec 2%, Rare varieties: 4% - exact blend varies by vintage

A legendary Languedoc red with Grand Cru ambition - fresh, savoury and built to evolve beautifully, but already full of character with a good decant.
