Domaine Mee Godard Morgon ‘Passerelle 577’ 2021 - Beaujolais, France
Producer's Notes:
On the nose it is distinguished by fresh aromas of red fruits, such as raspberry and redcurrant, accompanied by floral notes and a light touch of wild herbs. On the palate, the wine is bright, with dynamic acidity and delicate tannins, which give it an elegant structure. The finish is clean and refreshing, highlighting a pure expression of fruit and a subtle mineral touch.
What we say:
A more serious, structured side of Morgon, ‘Passerelle 577’ comes from old vines on the famed Côte du Py, rooted in blue volcanic stone and schist, giving the wine both depth and mineral intensity. It opens with layered aromas of red and dark berries - raspberry, cherry as well as plum - alongside floral notes, black tea, dried herbs and a subtle wet-stone character. The palate is finely built and energetic, with vibrant acidity and powdery, structured tannins framing a core of pure fruit. There’s a sense of concentration here without heaviness, finishing long, savoury and mineral with a quiet, persistent lift.
Sourced from a small selection of old vines (often around 70–80 years old) on south-east facing slopes, the wine is vinified with a mix of whole cluster and destemmed fruit, fermented in concrete and aged in large, mostly neutral oak (foudre and demi-muid). The approach is very much about structure and ageing potential - what Mee Godard calls “vin de garde” - resulting in a wine that balances precision with depth.
