Montevetrano “Core” Rosso - Campania IGT, Italy
A vibrant and modern southern Italian red from Montevetrano, Core (meaning “heart” in Neapolitan dialect) offers a more approachable and fruit-forward expression compared to the estate’s flagship wine. Made from Aglianico, Campania’s most noble grape, it combines depth with drinkability. Often referred to as the “Barolo of the South,” Aglianico is known for its high acidity, firm tannins and excellent ageing potential, while also showing dark fruit, spice and earthy complexity.
Montevetrano is one of Campania’s most respected producers, often credited with elevating the region’s international reputation through wines that combine local identity with modern precision.
The wine is fermented in stainless steel and aged partly in oak barrels and partly in tank, balancing structure with freshness and preserving the varietal character of Aglianico.
The wine opens with expressive aromas of black cherry, plum and blackberry, layered with notes of violet, spice and a touch of earth. On the palate it is medium-to-full-bodied and energetic, with bright acidity, ripe dark fruit and structured yet approachable tannins. There’s a savoury, slightly smoky edge typical of Aglianico, leading to a long, fresh finish.
