A stellar example of modern Napa-Bordeaux styling from Opus One Winery. The 2018 vintage stands out for its elegance, balance and longevity - a wine that blends power with poise.
On the nose: generous aromas of blackberry, cassis and black cherry - rich and inviting - lifted by floral touches of violet and rose petals, plus subtle notes of white pepper and dark soil. As it opens, nuances of graphite, incense, dark chocolate and crushed herbs add complexity and depth.
On the palate: medium-to-full-bodied, with a core of crunchy dark fruit and an undercurrent of fresh herbs and minerality. The texture is smooth and polished, the tannins fine and well-integrated, while acidity provides freshness and lift. Flavours of cassis, blueberry, licorice and dark chocolate give way to a long, mineral-tinged finish.
Style: Bordeaux-blend Napa red - refined, polished, structured and age-worthy.
Drink window: 2024–2045+ (will reward careful cellaring)
The 2018 Opus One is widely regarded as one of the finest recent vintages - a wine of richness and finesse, deep fruit expression, and superb structure. It’s drinkable now (especially with decanting), but its balance and backbone make it highly cellaring-worthy - a Napa classic in the making.
