Opus One 2019 – Napa Valley, California, USA
Producer's Notes:
The Opus One 2019 has intense aromas of black plum, blueberry, black currant, and dried rose petals, accentuated by mineral undertones. The creamy, satiny texture is framed by fine-grained tannins. The freshness and soft glow of acidity create a subtle tension with dark fruit flavours, savoury herbs, espresso, and cocoa. A delicate dark chocolate bitterness lingers on the finish.
What we say:
From the iconic collaboration between Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Robert Mondavi, this 2019 vintage is a superb single-estate Napa red that blends elegance, precision and power. With 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 2% Malbec, and matured in new French oak, it’s shaping up to be one of the great Napa releases.
On the nose you’ll find dark fruit - blackcurrant, cassis and blackberry - mixed with violet, rose petal, graphite and subtle liquorice. On the palate the wine is medium-to-full bodied, with silky yet firm tannins, vivid acidity, layered dark and red fruits, minty and herbal highlights, and a long, polished finish that speaks to both power and finesse.
Grape variety: Primarily Cabernet Sauvignon (78%) with Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc & Malbec
Style: Premium Napa Valley Bordeaux-style blend with ageing potential
Drink window: 2027–2047+
Perfect for: Prime beef, venison, strong aged cheeses, high-end dinners or serious cellaring
A Napa legend - structured, refined and almost immortal.
