Parthenium Nero d’Avola - Terre Siciliane IGT, Sicily, Italy
A classic, fruit-forward Sicilian red made from 100% Nero d’Avola, Parthenium (from Cantine Pellegrino) captures the warmth and easy charm of southern Italy’s most important indigenous grape. Known as the “black grape of Avola,” Nero d’Avola thrives in Sicily’s hot, dry climate, producing wines with generous fruit and a naturally smooth texture.
Nero d’Avola is Sicily’s flagship red grape, known for producing wines with ripe fruit, soft tannins and a slightly spicy edge, often compared stylistically to New World Shiraz but with a distinctly Mediterranean character.
The wine opens with aromas of black cherry, blackberry and plum, alongside hints of violet and soft spice. On the palate it is medium-bodied and supple, offering ripe dark fruit, gentle tannins and balanced acidity, with a warm, rounded finish and a touch of savoury spice.
