Pieropan “Calvarino” Soave Classico - Veneto, Italy

A benchmark Soave and one of the original single-vineyard wines of the region, Calvarino from Pieropan is widely regarded as a reference point for high-quality Soave Classico. First produced in 1971, it helped redefine the category, showing the potential of hillside vineyards and traditional varieties.

Soave is a dry white wine from Veneto, based primarily on Garganega, often showing citrus and orchard fruit, almond and floral notes and characteristic minerality with a slightly bitter finish.

Pieropan is one of Soave’s historic estates, producing wine since the late 19th century and widely credited with elevating the region’s reputation. Notably, they were among the first to bottle Soave under its own name and have been certified organic since 2015.

Sourced from stony hillside vineyards in the heart of Soave Classico, the grapes are hand-harvested and fermented in glass-lined cement tanks, followed by around 12 months ageing on lees - building texture while preserving purity and freshness.

The wine opens with elegant aromas of lemon, pear and white flowers, alongside subtle notes of almond and mineral stone. On the palate it is dry and beautifully balanced, combining bright acidity, orchard fruit and a distinctive mineral backbone, with a long, refined finish that gains complexity with age.

Grape varieties: Primarily Garganega with Trebbiano di Soave (varies slightly by vintage)

Style: Dry white, medium-bodied, mineral and age-worthy

Drink window: Now–2030+ (can age significantly longer in top vintages)

Perfect for: Seafood, oysters, veal, vegetable dishes, risotto

Pure, mineral and beautifully age-worthy - a benchmark Soave that defines the elegance and potential of Garganega at its best.
