Sangenís i Vaqué ‘Garbinada’ Priorat - Priorat, Spain
Fresh, dark-fruited and full of Priorat character, ‘Garbinada’ is a more immediate, unoaked expression from Sangenís i Vaqué, showing the region’s structure without the weight of barrel ageing. It opens with cherry, red berries and darker plum fruit, layered with Mediterranean herbs, liquorice, pepper and a clear slate-driven mineral edge. The palate is medium-bodied but firmly built, with juicy fruit, lively acidity and enough tannin to remind you this is still Priorat, finishing fresh, savoury and stony rather than heavy or over-polished.
Made from a traditional blend of Garnacha and Cariñena, ‘Garbinada’ is vinified without oak ageing in old underground wine presses or vats lined with ceramic tiles, helping preserve freshness, fruit purity and that rugged Porrera mineral character. The name refers to a cooling sea breeze, and that idea fits the wine well: it has the depth and structure of Priorat, but with a brighter, more accessible feel designed for earlier drinking.
