A vintage of aromatic complexity and freshness. The tannins are ripe, soft and silky. Elegant and enticing, the sensations of the wine prolong in a long fruity finish with balsamic notes.

What we say:

Tenuta dell’Ornellaia’s 2005 Bolgheri Superiore is a classic example of their “Supertuscan” Bordeaux-style blend: powerful, polished and Mediterranean in character, yet with elegance and ageing potential. On the nose, the wine reveals ripe blackcurrant and plum alongside notes of cedar, spice, tobacco and a hint of exotic herbs — rich and compelling, drawing you in. On the palate it is full-bodied and concentrated, dark berry and plum fruit carrying through to layers of cocoa, sweet spice, soft cedar and subtle mineral undercurrents; the tannins remain firm but silky, giving the wine structure and length, while a finish of dark fruit, spice and restrained oak lingers long.

Grape variety: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot 

Style: Full-bodied, structured Tuscan Bordeaux-style red with depth and finesse 

Drink window: now–2028+ (currently drinking beautifully — will continue to evolve over the next 5–10 years) 

Perfect for: Prime rib, grilled or roast beef, venison, mature cheeses, meaty pasta dishes or truffle-accented fare

A classic Ornellaia from a strong vintage - powerful and immersive now, but still with plenty of structure to evolve gracefully over the coming years.

Please be aware that with all vintage wines, the natural corks may crumble if using a regular corkscrew. Please use proper uncorking tools and exercise caution.  Sediment will settle in the bottle over time therefore decanting prior to serving will remove this deposit.
