Vicente Gandía ‘Castillo de Liria’ Monastrell Shiraz - Alicante, Spain
Producer's Notes:
This wine is of an intense, well-robed cherry colour. It has an expressive bouquet where the aromas of red fruits such as blackberries and raspberries stand out. It has been carefully fermented to obtain a wine that is extremely pleasant on the palate and with a good balance between acidity and tannins.
What we say:
Ripe, smooth and generously fruit-driven, Castillo de Liria combines the Mediterranean warmth of Monastrell with the spice and structure of Shiraz. Aromas of black plum, blackberry and ripe cherry are complemented by fragrant notes of lilac, violet and sweet spice. The palate is medium-bodied and approachable, with juicy dark fruit, supple tannins and subtle touches of vanilla and toast. Soft, balanced and persistent, it finishes with lingering plum fruit and gentle spice.
Produced under the Alicante designation from organically grown Monastrell and Shiraz, the wine brings together a native Spanish variety with an internationally recognized partner. Monastrell contributes ripe fruit, warmth and a rounded texture, while Shiraz adds colour, floral character and peppery depth. Castillo de Liria was established by Vicente Gandía in 1971 and remains one of the producer’s most accessible ranges. This certified-organic and vegan bottling is presented in lightweight recycled glass with labels and packaging made from responsibly sourced materials.
