Alain Graillot “La Guiraude” Crozes-Hermitage 2017 - Northern Rhône, France

From one of the Rhône’s benchmark producers, the 2017 La Guiraude shows why this cuvée is regarded as one of the finest expressions of Crozes-Hermitage. This is Syrah at its most elegant and terroir-driven: expect aromas of wild cherry, dark berry, olive tapenade, crushed peppercorn, and a smoky, slightly meaty undertone.

On the palate it combines density with lift - blackberry and plum fruit, a hint of violets and soft spice, supple but structured tannins, and a finish that lingers with mineral and herb nuance. A versatile red that delivers both charm now and enough structure for further evolution.

Grape variety: 100% Syrah

Style: Rhône-classic Syrah - rich fruit, peppery spice, savoury depth and mineral lift

Drink window: Now–2028 (and likely beyond)

Perfect for: Grilled lamb, beef stew, game, rich vegetable dishes, mushroom-based pastas, or traditional Rhône fare

A Crozes-Hermitage that marries Rhône power with finesse - dark fruit, smoky spice and graceful structure in every glass.

Perfect Pairings for Alain Graillot “La Guiraude” 2017

1. Main Courses

• Grilled Lamb Chops with Rosemary & Garlic

The wine’s peppery, savoury edge matches beautifully with char and herbs.

• Duck Confit

The richness of duck softens the Syrah’s structure while the wine’s acidity cuts through the fat.

• Beef Bourguignon or Daube Provençale

Slow-cooked, wine-braised dishes love the smoky, earthy side of Syrah.

• Venison Backstrap / Game Stew

The floral, lightly wild elements in the wine complement game meats perfectly.

2. Vegetarian Pairings

• Mushroom & Thyme Risotto

Earthiness + umami = perfect synergy.

• Aubergine (Eggplant) Parmigiana

Smoky notes in the wine echo roasted aubergine beautifully.

• Wild Mushroom Tart or Grilled Portobellos

A great match for the savoury, olive-tapenade character.

3. Cheese Pairings

• Comté

Its nutty, buttery complexity works wonders with Rhône Syrah.

• Aged Gouda

Caramelised notes + Syrah spice = yes.

• Tomme de Savoie

Mellow but flavourful, ideal with gently matured reds.

4. Unexpected but Brilliant

• Charcoal-Grilled Octopus

The smoky, saline interplay can be magical with Graillot’s style.
