Alain Graillot Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2023 - Northern Rhône, France
A benchmark Northern Rhône Syrah from the iconic Domaine Alain Graillot, this 2023 captures everything that has made the estate one of the reference points of Crozes-Hermitage. Now led by Alain Graillot’s sons, the domaine continues its legacy of producing pure, expressive and terroir-driven Syrah from organically farmed vineyards.
The 2023 vintage in Crozes-Hermitage benefited from a long, even ripening season, producing wines with both ripeness and balance - a strong year for the appellation.
Graillot’s vineyards, planted on gravel and alluvial soils, tend to produce a more refined, aromatic style of Syrah compared to heavier expressions elsewhere in the Rhône.
The 2023 shows classic aromatics of black cherry, blackberry and violet, layered with black pepper, olive tapenade, herbs and a hint of cured meat. On the palate it is medium-to-full-bodied with excellent energy - juicy dark fruit, fine tannins and bright acidity give structure while maintaining freshness. There’s a savoury, mineral edge throughout, leading to a long, peppery finish that is both elegant and persistent.
Grape variety: 100% Syrah (the only permitted red grape in the appellation)
Style: Dry red, medium-to-full-bodied Northern Rhône Syrah
Drink window: Now–2035
Perfect for: Roast lamb, grilled steak, duck, charcuterie, mushroom dishes
Classic, savoury and beautifully balanced - a textbook Crozes-Hermitage from one of the appellation’s defining producers.
