Alain Graillot La Guiraude Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2023 - Northern Rhône, France
Origin: Les Chénes Verts, Pont de l'Ilsère, Rhône, France
A benchmark Northern Rhône Syrah from one of the appellation’s most revered producers, Alain Graillot, La Guiraude is a rare barrel selection cuvée made only in the best vintages. The 2023 marks an important chapter - one of the first fully overseen by the next generation following Alain Graillot’s passing, while maintaining the estate’s signature style of purity and restraint.
La Guiraude is a selection of the domaine’s finest barrels, sourced from older vines on alluvial, stone-rich soils. Fermentation often includes whole clusters, with ageing in older barrels to preserve fruit purity while adding structure and complexity - a hallmark of the Graillot style.
The wine opens with layered aromatics of blackberry, black cherry and violet, intertwined with notes of pepper, dried herbs, olive tapenade and subtle earth. On the palate it is medium-to-full-bodied with impressive density and precision - fine, firm tannins and vibrant acidity give structure, while the core of dark fruit and spice carries through a long, savoury, peppery finish. This is Crozes-Hermitage at a serious level - refined, mineral and built to age.
Grape variety: 100% Syrah
