Domaine de la Pépière "Clos des Briords" Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie - Loire Valley, France

Producer's Notes:

The grapes are harvested by hand and transported to the winery with great care. The pneumatic press is filled by gravity; the grapes are not crushed. Fermentation takes place naturally in underground tanks (without the addition of yeast or sugar) at a temperature of 190°C for approximately one month. This cuvée remains on its lees for eight months, without racking, in accordance with the aging requirements of the appellation. The Briords cuvée is characterized by great tension, a lovely vivacity, and lemony notes. Served decanted at 12-14°C, it pairs perfectly with raw shellfish, goat cheese, etc.

What we say:

A benchmark Muscadet that demonstrates just how compelling the appellation can be, Clos des Briords is vibrant, precise and remarkably age-worthy. The nose is alive with aromas of lemon zest, green apple and white flowers, underscored by oyster shell, wet stone and a subtle saline character. The palate is taut and beautifully textured, combining racy citrus fruit with crisp acidity and an unmistakable mineral core. Extended ageing on the lees lends a gentle creaminess and added depth, while the finish is long, pure and refreshingly maritime.

The Clos des Briords vineyard occupies just three hectares of mature vines, many over 60 years old, on the granite-rich slopes overlooking the River Maine. Domaine de la Pépière farms the site according to organic and biodynamic principles, harvesting entirely by hand before allowing fermentation to proceed naturally with indigenous yeasts in underground glass-lined vats. The wine then spends around eight months on its lees without racking, preserving freshness while developing its signature texture and complexity. Widely regarded as one of the Loire's great Muscadets, it is a superb example of how careful viticulture and exceptional terroir can elevate Melon de Bourgogne into a wine of remarkable character.
