Domaine Gaël Félix ‘Fidélie’ Pinot Noir Gamay - Loire Valley, France

Fresh, silky and quietly charming, ‘Fidélie’ is a lovely Loire red that brings Pinot Noir’s delicacy together with Gamay’s juicy lift. It opens with wild strawberry, red cherry and raspberry, layered with peppery spice, subtle florals and a gentle earthy note. The palate is supple and bright, with ripe, tangy red fruit, silky tannins and an easy, digestible feel that makes it wonderfully food-friendly without losing its sense of place.

Made from co-planted vines in the Vin de Pays des Coteaux du Cher et de l’Arnon, the blend is 90% Pinot Noir and 10% Gamay, grown on clay-gravel and clay-silica terraces. The grapes are hand-harvested and sorted, then fermented with indigenous yeasts after mostly manual destemming, with around 30% whole bunches included. After a three-week maceration, the wine is aged for nine months, half in older barrels and half in stainless steel, preserving freshness while adding a little texture and depth

This sits very comfortably in the low-intervention camp: organically farmed fruit, indigenous yeast fermentation, partial whole-bunch inclusion and a relatively gentle élevage split between older barrels and stainless steel. Rather than chasing polish or heavy extraction, the wine is built around freshness, purity and drinkability, giving it the lively, slightly untamed feel many people associate with natural wine - while still staying clean, precise and very approachable.
