Domaine Jean-Philippe Padié '10+10=22' Orange - Vin de France (Roussillon), France
A wonderfully vibrant orange wine that balances texture, freshness and remarkable drinkability. The nose is alive with aromas of preserved lemon, apricot, orange peel and ripe pear, intertwined with chamomile, fennel pollen and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, gentle tannic grip from skin contact adds structure without overwhelming the wine, while bright citrus, orchard fruit and a subtle saline minerality create a wine that is both complex and effortlessly refreshing. The finish is long, savoury and beautifully poised, with hints of dried citrus zest and warm stone.
Jean-Philippe Padié farms around 18 hectares of old vines in the village of Calce, one of Roussillon's most celebrated terroirs, working organically with biodynamic principles to encourage healthy, living soils. The cuvée is a blend of 45% Grenache Blanc and Grenache Gris, 45% Macabeu and 10% Vermentino, with the Vermentino spending seven days on its skins to provide the wine's delicate amber hue and fine tannic texture. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts before ageing for nine months in a combination of stainless steel tanks and large oak foudres. The wine is bottled unfiltered and unfined with only a minimal addition of sulphur, allowing the purity of the fruit and terroir to shine through.
The distinctive label was created to celebrate Jean-Philippe Padié's twentieth vintage and playfully references the iconic cover of Massive Attack's seminal 1991 trip-hop classic Blue Lines. It's a fun cultural nod that perfectly reflects the wine's modern, independent spirit while celebrating two decades of innovative winemaking in Roussillon. We suggest popping a copy of the record on when you crack open your next bottle!
