Domaine Jean-Philippe Padié 'Gibraltar' Grenache - Côtes Catalanes IGP, Roussillon, France

Deep, perfumed and remarkably elegant, Gibraltar is Jean-Philippe Padié's captivating expression of old-vine Grenache from the rugged hills of Roussillon. Aromas of wild blackberry, black raspberry and ripe plum are layered with violets, garrigue herbs, cracked pepper, liquorice and warm Mediterranean spice. The palate is silky yet beautifully structured, delivering concentrated dark fruit, finely woven tannins and vibrant freshness that lift the wine well beyond expectations. Despite its depth, it remains graceful and energetic, finishing long with savoury notes of crushed rock, dried herbs and subtle cocoa.

The fruit comes from century-old Grenache vines rooted in the distinctive black schist soils surrounding the tiny village of Calce, where cooling Tramontane winds preserve freshness despite the warm Mediterranean climate. Jean-Philippe Padié farms organically with biodynamic principles, harvesting by hand before fermenting with indigenous yeasts and ageing the wine in large, neutral oak foudres to preserve the purity of both fruit and terroir. Named Gibraltar after the dramatic rock formation overlooking the vineyard which resembles the Rock of Gibraltar, the wine captures the wild beauty, mineral character and unmistakable identity of this remarkable corner of Roussillon.
