Eduardo Torres Acosta Quota N Piede Franco Rosso 2022 - Terre Siciliane IGT, Sicily, Italy
From a centuries-old vineyard in Piede Franco, this is a captivating and terroir-driven red from Eduardo Torres Acosta, born on the challenging volcanic slopes of Mt. Etna and crafted from an exceptional, high-altitude parcel of ungrafted, 100+ year old vines. Quota N is named after the local road (“strada quota nave”) that climbs above 1,000 m, putting the vineyard outside the official Etna DOC boundary - and giving the wine unusually cool-climate freshness for Sicily. The result is a wine that’s vibrant and mineral, with lifted aromas of wild cherry, red berry, rose petal and a hint of warm spice supported by earthy volcanic thread. On the palate it’s medium-bodied with fine acidity and delicate tannins, reflecting both the minerality of the volcanic soils and the old-vine intensity that sets this bottling apart.
Grape varieties: 50% Nerello Mascalese, 20% Grenache, 30% local white grapes (Grecanico, Carricante, Coda di Volpe) - all grown on a tiny, organic, high-elevation site.
Style: Dry red, medium-bodied with mineral energy and finesse (Terre Siciliane IGT)
Drink window: Now–2032 (typical for moderate-alcohol Etna wines)
Perfect for: Roasted pork, grilled lamb, mushroom dishes, pizza, charcuterie
Viticulture & winemaking: Organic farming on volcanic soils, spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, and ageing in concrete and old barrels enhance purity and terroir expression.
Elegant yet expressive - an artisanal low-intervention Etna-area red with volcanic minerality and old-vine depth.
