Ferdinando Principiano Langhe Nebbiolo - Langhe DOC, Piedmont, Italy

A beautifully pure and expressive Nebbiolo from Ferdinando Principiano, this Langhe bottling offers a more immediate and approachable window into the grape compared to Barolo, while still retaining its hallmark elegance and structure. Sourced from vineyards around Monforte d’Alba, it reflects the producer’s organic farming and minimal-intervention philosophy.

Langhe Nebbiolo is often considered a “younger sibling” to Barolo: made from the same grape but crafted for earlier drinking. In this case, it shows Nebbiolo’s classic floral aromatics, red fruit and structure, but in a more open, vibrant and accessible form, making it ideal for both everyday enjoyment and as an introduction to the variety.

The fruit is organically farmed and hand-harvested before fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel. The wine is aged in tank (and occasionally large neutral vessels depending on vintage), with no reliance on new oak, preserving the crunchy fruit, aromatic lift and natural freshness that define Principiano’s style.

The nose is lifted and aromatic, showing red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry, layered with notes of rose petal, violet and a touch of spice. On the palate it is medium-bodied and finely balanced, with bright acidity and gentle tannins supporting a core of fresh red fruit. There’s a subtle savoury edge and a clean, persistent finish that highlights both freshness and terroir.
