Gentle Folk “Scary Gully” Pinot Noir – Adelaide Hills, Australia

Importer's Notes:

This site is 600m above sea level in the Basket Range. The 38-year-old vines are rooted in siltstone, sandstone, and clay, with chunky pieces of quartz making up the remainder. The aspect is southeast to southwest, an oddity for the southern hemisphere. The grapes are predominantly destemmed (80%) and fermented in open top tank for three weeks. The wine is then pressed off into barriques (15% new) for an eight-month élevage. 190 cases were produced. 13.5% ABV, 3.71 pH, 5.1 g/L TA

What we say:

This single-vineyard Pinot Noir comes from one of the highest and oldest vineyards in the Adelaide Hills, planted on sandstone-and-quartz slopes in the steep forest-range site known as Scary Gully.  Expect aromas of red berries, cherry, dark plum and wild raspberry, mingled with hints of earth, soft spice and delicate floral notes. On the palate it’s bright yet slightly brooding - juicy red fruit on entry, gentle tannins, subtle herbal/peppery undertones, a touch of savoury complexity and a clean, lingering finish. Several descriptions note its smoky, peppery edge alongside a soft, silky texture.

Grape variety: 100% Pinot Noir (single-vineyard)

Style: Light-to-medium-bodied, elegant, site-expressive cool-climate Pinot Noir

Drink window: Now–2028 (can evolve with gentle cellar time)

Perfect for: Duck, grilled salmon, mushroom dishes, charcuterie, roasted chicken, festive dinners or cosy evenings

A refined, high-altitude Aussie Pinot — bright, textured and deeply evocative of place.
