Gentle Folk 'Village' Chardonnay - Adelaide Hills, Australia

Producer's Notes:

This wine comes from three vineyards: Scary Gully (50%), Piccadilly (40%), and Ashton (10%). The grapes were whole-cluster pressed into tank, and after a night of settling, the juice is racked off into a variety of barrels (10% new) for fermentation and élevage.

What We Say:

A cool-climate white Chardonnay that balances ripe fruit and texture with acidity, minerality, and savory detail that give the wine real tension. The nose is filled with fresh, ripe stone fruit and citrus, with a more savory and mineral side emerging underneath. A subtle creamy texture contrasts with savory, saline, and mineral elements that keep the wine from becoming overwhelmingly rich.

The grapes come from Adelaide Hills vineyards ranging from 5 to 35 years old and are at around 400–500m elevation. The soils are primarily light loamy clay over sandstone. After the juice is 100% whole-cluster pressed, it sits in a tank for one night before being transferred to a combination of French and Austrian barriques, puncheons, and foudre, then spends approximately nine months in oak.
